Office Open & Tertiary Grants Open

Kia ora koutou katoa,

We are delighted to report that Putauaki Trust's office has reopened now that Aotearoa has moved to Alert Level 2. The response by Māori to the C-19 situation throughout the motu shows the adaptability inherent in our DNA.  When crisis has hit Aotearoa – whether it be war, disease, a recession – Māori have responded.  Te Puea Hērangi for example, mobilised Māori, specifically Waikato-Tainui against WW1.  She stood shoulder-to-shoulder with Waikato men when they refused conscription and were roundly punished as a result.

The response to C-19 has been no different with Māori quick to mobilise.  It just happened like it does on the marae, a slick running machine that purrs into action.  If you were observing from the outside you’d be wondering how is it organised, who is organising, hika! where did all these people come from, how do they know what to do, who told them to do it – it just happens.

This is what has happened throughout Aotearoa with  iwi, urban Māori, remote communities, kura, organisations and businesses of all shapes and sizes just purring into action, with kete kai, rongoā, manaakitanga and yes.....even rāhui on the roads.

As a Business the Trust has been in a very fortunate and privileged position with our farms and Kiwifruit orchard able to carry on as essential business's. These business areas together with our revenue streams from the Trust's industrial leases has meant that the Trust's cash flows and financial position has not been adversely impacted by Covid-19 unlike many other NZ businesses. We have survived and hopefully improved during these challenging times. In that regard our website has been updated and descendants can now apply online for the various grants the Trust offers. We are pleased to advise that our Tertiary Grants are now open and students can register and apply through our website putauakitrust.com. Applications will be open until 17th June 2020.

Nga mihi mahana ki a koutou, kia waimarie tatou katoa.
